Summitting an Alp Does the Mini fit in the van? Sort of... Highland camp

Trips

The mountain day!

In Summer 2010 we ran a week long trip in Glen Nevis near Fort William in Scotland. King’s On Tour! 2010 included a wide variety of activities such as whitewater kayaking, rock climbing and an expedition up Britain’s tallest peak, Ben Nevis. This was the first time KCKC (the kayak club) and WHAM (the mountaineering group) hosted a trip together and it was such a success that it was decided to unify the two groups into KMKA. Twenty graduates and undergraduates made the journey North, everyone pitched in with cooking, camp duties and most importantly the activities. Trip report here.

In the first week of Easter Vac in March 2011 nine of us broke out of Cambridge for five days and travelled to Hathersage in the Peak District. Great fun was had by all with many of the group achieving their first outdoor trad lead climbs and some trying out sport climbing in a nearby quarry. We even enjoyed toasting marshmallows on a campfire one night! Trip log.

July 2011 brought the highlight of the year , however, King’s On Grand Tour! 2011 took 21 Kingsmen (and women) to Guillestre in the Haute Alpes for a week of sport climbing on Mont Dauphin, whitewater paddling in the Middle Durance, hiking through alpine terrain and summiting an Alp, Pic de Caramantran on the French-Italian border!

Check out photos from all the trips in the Galleries section of the site, and reports of our adventures in the Trip Log.

We have had such a great time in the last few years, naturally we always have plans for more trips, in both term time and vacations, and even larger scale adventures! Watch this space!
